We spent one day out at the ranch. The boys had a blast! So much dirt to kick, rocks to throw, fences to climb, and sticks to find! They thought they were so big helping Pop drive the buggy. Pop enjoyed showing them around where he grew up. We always have a great time out there as a family.

We started off our new year by a trip back to Texas! The boys and I flew to West Texas to see more family that we didn't get to see over the holidays. We enjoyed spending time with Papaw, Uncle Wayne, & Aunt SuSu. GiGi and Pop along with Jodie and Harper met us out there as well. One day we even woke up to snow! It was beautiful and some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen. The boys were so excited because we haven't had snow in Tennessee this year. And they have been waiting patiently for it... so they got to have fun in the snow. GiGi helped them build a snowman and Harper got to see snow for the first time. We had a great trip and can't wait to go back!

2011 In Review

2011 was another great year for our family. We are going on our second year living in middle Tennessee and love the area. There are so many great things to do for families. Hudson turned 4 and had a Lightning McQueen birthday party at the bowling alley. He is in his last year of preschool and learning to write his letters and his name. It is hard to believe he will be in Kindergarten next year. I know I am going to have a hard time with it and Carter is going to have an even harder time! He loves his brother so much and will miss him terribly. Hudson played soccer for the first time this fall and seemed to enjoy it. He met lots of new friends and the best part was Daddy was his coach! He is a very sweet boy and so kind-hearted. Carter turned 3 this year and accomplished lots of milestones. He was potty trained in January. He did a great job and earned the reward he was promised... a monster truck! He also gave up his passy and mailed them all to his new cousin Harper. That was so much easier than I thought it would be. We celebrated his birthday with a superhero party at Monkey Joe's. He had it with his friend Beckett who is only a few days younger. Carter also took swim lessons for the first time in May and wasn't too crazy about getting his face wet, but as summer passed he got better. He also played soccer this fall but was more interested in playing in the dirt and what the snack after the game was going to be! Carter is always on the go and constantly keeps us on our toes. This year we also got to go on some great vacations. In May, Brad and I went with our good friends on a cruise! It was so nice to get away and relax. The summer was busy with trips to Florida, Texas, and Arizona to meet our new niece/cousin Harper. We love her so much. And then in the fall we went to Memphis and then back to Disney World with GiGi and Pop. The weather was much cooler and we had lots of fun! So as I reflect back we were busy and on the go all year! We are truly blessed and wish for a happy and healthy 2012!

On the way home from Texas, we stopped in Memphis for the night to have Christmas with the other side of our family. Uncle Jeff, Aunt Leslie, and cousins Avery and Olivia were also in town. It was so nice to all be together. Bull and Mimi got the boys more goodies which they loved and they had lots of fun playing with their cousins. We had a great holiday and got to see all of our family!

We had a great Christmas in Texas. The boys and I flew down early to spend time with GiGi, Pop, Grammie, Aunt Jodie, & Harper. Brad drove down with Molly and Rocky a few days later. The boys loved having Harper around. They were so good with her and very gently. I can't wait for them to grow up together. Santa found us in Texas and brought the boys way too many goodies. They got lots of Legos. Hudson got his Mega T-Rex he had been asking for and Carter got a MobiGo and Darth Vader mask. He loves to dress up and pretend and has a vivid imagination! Christmas day we had a full house with my mom's side of the family. We even got to see my friend Megan and her daughter India after Christmas. We enjoyed our visit with family and friends in Texas!

Larry has had a busy time at our house this season. The boys have had lots of fun finding where he has landed each morning. Larry has brought a few messages, candy, & treats which the boys have loved. Carter talks to Larry and tells him things to tell Santa for him. They don't want to be on Santa's naughty list so they have been extra good and been using good manners. We will miss Larry when he is gone!

At the Opry Hotel

Today we went to the Opry Hotel here in Nashville to ICE. This year's theme was Merry Madagascar which was perfect since both boys were a Madagascar character for Halloween. Everything is carved out of ice and you walk through the story. It is amazing the work the artist/carvers do. At the end they have ice slides that you can go down and of course this was the boys favorite part. They had so much fun they didn't even realize how cold it was in there. After ICE we went over to the hotel to look at the beautiful Christmas decorations and have lunch. Hopefully this will be a tradition we can do annually with the boys. Everyone had a great time!

The sights and sounds of Christmas are here. We are enjoying the season and the boys are excited about the decorations, lights, and of course awaiting Santa's arrival. We are teaching them the true meaning of Christmas and Baby Jesus' birth. Carter told me yesterday that Baby Jesus was born in a tent! We can't wait to spend the holidays with family and friends!

The boys picked out this Tennessee Christmas tree at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. The minute they saw it they wanted to get it for their dad. So this morning we decorated it and put it in his office while he was at work to surprise him! Notice the Lego towers they built for him as well.

Tonight we went to dinner and to get a slice of cake since Carter believes birthdays don't exist without cake! Carter picked chocolate of course and Hudson picked strawberry.

Carter even shared with Dad since it was his birthday!

The boys had a great time at their Thanksgiving celebrations today. Carter's class had a traditional turkey lunch and sat on the floor just like the Indians did. The boys has a blast on Halloween! They were so excited and wild all day. They couldn't wait to carve our pumpkin until they saw what is inside of a pumpkin and then changed their minds. Carter wouldn't touch it and Hudson helped some but didn't like "getting all messy"! The boys and I went all over our neighborhood with their friend and neighbor Beckett. Every house we left Hudson would ask if we could go to one more! Thank goodness our neighborhood is small. Dad stayed home and handed out candy. They got way too much candy but had so much fun getting it!

We had a great last day at Magic Kingdom! The weather this week turned out to be great and we didn't have any more rain after the first day. The boys did really well going non-stop and staying up late. They were more into rides this time instead of seeing the characters like last time. A great vacation with so many memories made. Thanks again Pop and GiGi for taking us. We had a great time!

We took a break from Disney today and went to Sea World. The boys have been seeing commercials on TV for months and have been asking when we could go to Sea World to see the whales and penguins. We spent the day at Epcot. Carter thought the "big golf ball" was so cool! There is not as much to do for the kids but the adults enjoyed it. The boys did have fun going to the different countries and getting their "passport" stamped. Then we went over to Magic Kingdom to catch the Electrical Light Parade. It was a LONG day but everyone had fun!

Today we went to Hollywood Studios. Last time we came we really didn't get to do much here because it rained. Today was great weather and we enjoyed all of the rides and shows. We arrived in Orlando last night with two very excited boys who were ready to see Mickey Mouse! GiGi and Pop were very gracious to invite us again to spend a week at Disney with them. We decide to go in the fall because last June it was so unbearably hot. We had heard October was a great month to go for the better weather and it was less crowded. It was pouring rain when we landed and the forecast did not look good for a trip to Disney. It continued to rain so instead of wasting our park tickets we spent today at Downtown Disney. The boys loved all the Legos and looking around in all the shops. It ended up being a great day!

On Friday, Bull took us to the Memphis Air Show to see the Blue Angels practice. It was so neat to watch and the boys loved every minute of it. They also got to see other airplanes and helicopters. As Hudson said, "It was the best air show ever!".

For a year Hudson has been asking to "play soccer on a field" like his friend Carson from school does. So the boys are now "playing soccer on a field" and we are soccer parents! While we only planned to sign Hudson up this fall, Carter begged to play and told me he would "do his very best"... How do you turn that down? Brad has stepped into the coach role as well for Hudson's team because when we called to inquire who his coach was, they told us they didn't have one. So Brad agreed to coach the team. They both seem to like it so far and we have enjoyed watching them play. I guess this means our years filled with practices and games have begun!

Carter had "homework" on his first day. He had to fill his "Me Bag" with three things he loves. He picked his brother, Chick-fil-A, & his new transformer.

The boys had a great first day of preschool. Hudson is in Pre-K! Only one more year and he gets to go to the "big school" and so he says "ride the bus with no parents". Makes me sad he is growing up so fast. Carter is in the 3 year old class and has the same teachers Hudson had last year. I can't wait for them to find out how different the boys personalities are. They both came home saying they had fun and met new friends so the day was a success!

Our family has grown by two feet!

The boys and I flew to Phoenix to meet Baby Harper on the day she was born. We had a great trip and enjoyed spending time with family and loving on Harper. We arrived in Arizona when they were having record breaking temperatures even for them. It was a scorching 114 the day we got there and stayed that way the entire 8 days we were there. The boys loved the fact that Jodie and Todd have a pool and swam everyday.

We can't wait to see you again Harper and watch you grow!

The Williamson County Fair has been going on this week right by our house. We didn't go last year because we were still getting settled. But this year we spent a family night at the fair and had lots of fun! The boys saw lots of animals and tractors and even got to pretend to be farmers. Of course they also wanted to ride the carnival rides so daddy bought enough tickets for a few rides. We had a great time and can't wait to go next year. As Hudson said, "This is the best night ever!"

This weekend we took a mini vacation to Destin with the boys. They have been asking for months to "Go to the beach!". They have been to the Texas beach but never to Florida. They had so much fun in the sand shoveling and digging! Hudson loved the water too. I had to watch him because he was not afraid of the waves whatsoever... he just dove right into them! Carter liked the water okay but still didn't want his face to get wet which creates a problem. We saw our neighbors that were down there and several friends. It was a great trip and nice to get away for some fun in the sun!

For months the boys have been asked regularly when Cars 2 was coming out... Friday was finally the day! They were so excited when they went to bed on Thursday night that they each woke up during the night to see if it was "Friday yet?". Friday morning when Hudson woke up he said, "Happy Cars 2 Day Mom!". They went with their friend Beckett and loved the movie. It was so fun to see them so excited and of course they know all the characters already from all the marketing Disney has done. After the movie on the way to the car Hudson said, "Now mom can we go to Target and get the DVD so we can watch it again?". I am sure we will own it once it comes out and they will watch it hundreds of time like they have the first one.

It is already very hot here for the first of June and we are trying to stay cool by playing in the water and going to the pool. Last weekend we set up the Slip N' Slide that Carter got for his birthday. As Brad was setting it up he said, "Want to bet this doesn't last all summer?"... well it lasted 2 hours before it got a hole. They love playing in the water and swimming which we will probably be doing a lot of as the temperature climbs!

We celebrated Carter's Birthday at Monkey Joe's with his friend Beckett. Beckett and his family are our neighbors and we have become great friends. The boys started swimming lessons this week. Hudson took lessons last year but really didn't get to practice his skills because we moved soon after and spent the summer getting settled here and not much time at the pool. He loves the water and is really enjoying the lessons. Carter on the other hand is not much of a fan so far. This is not a total surprise since he hates taking a shower because he doesn't like water to get on his face! So putting his face in the pool water is not his favorite, but he is getting better at it.

They will be swimming like a Guppy before long...

On the drive to Memphis I was reading my Parents magazine and noticed an article that I really needed to read. Carter will be 3 next month and still uses a passy to sleep with. We had tried a few times before to get rid of it but got various excuses from him including "It keeps his mouth warm and his mouth is too cold without it!". We wouldn't give it to him... he would fuss... so for peace we would give it to him. I knew it was past time! On the way home Sunday I told Carter that we needed to mail his passys to Aunt Jodie for her baby that is due in August. And to our surprise he agreed...and it was as easy as that! He slept all night Sunday without a passy! So on Monday we packaged them up at "mailed" them to Aunt Jodie.

The boys were so excited we had a "bobcat" in our back yard. And they got really excited when the cement truck pulled up!

Last week was spring break for the boys so my plan was to get Carter potty trained before he turns three. I wasn't sure how it was going to go since he has wanted to do everything his brother is doing except get on the potty for months... We went with the same "Potty Training Boot Camp" we did with Hudson and it went great! He has done so well and is now telling us that he needs to go and not having any accidents. It was well worth the two monster trucks they picked out at Wal-mart! We are officially out of the diaper stage! Now if I can just get rid of his passy before he goes to Kindergarten...

Jodie and Todd came to visit for Spring Break and we took them to Lynchburg, TN to the Jack Daniels Distillery for a tour! The grounds of the distillery were beautiful. Carter's favorite part was the unlimited glasses of lemonade in the tasting room after the tour. Since the county is dry they serve lemonade instead of JD whiskey. After the tour we had lunch at Miss Mary BoBo's Boarding House Restaurant. Everything is served family style with lots and lots of butter! On the day we went it was fried chicken day! The boys waiting for the dinner bell to ring! We had a great day! It was the best tour I have been on like that and was totally free of charge. I know more about whiskey now than I ever thought I would. We had such a great week with Jodie and Todd. The boys love them to death and are missing them already. We did lots of fun things and ate too much but the best part was just being together. We can't wait for them to come back!

Stomach Bug, Stomach Bug Go Away!

The stomach bug paid a visit to our house twice this week. Carter got sick Sunday night at 11:30PM and was sick for 48 hours and then as soon as he turned the corner, Hudson got sick on Wednesday morning at 4:30AM! So it hasn't been a fun week around here. Hudson informed me that the reason he and Carter got sick is that they didn't wash their hands enough and germs got into their mouth and made them sick! Thankful everyone is starting to feel better today...

We celebrated Hudson's birthday for 3 days straight! On Friday, Mimi and Bull came into town and we had his family birthday dinner. Spaghetti... one of his favorites. Then on Saturday we had a Lightning McQueen bowling party with all of his friends. Everyone had a good time. They have mini lanes with bumpers and a 4lb ball. It was several of the kids first time to bowl but everyone had fun. We had pizza and cupcakes to celebrate. On Sunday, which was his actual birthday, we had his favorite donut holes for breakfast with candles. We sang Happy Birthday again... because as Hudson told us, "That is what kids do!" and then he opened more presents. He got lots of fun gifts including his own golf clubs and bag, a work bench with tools, and a "Rock and Roll Guitar". We are partied out!

We got more snow and so the kids had no school again... What better way to spend the day than baking with GiGi! Hudson loves Auntie Anne's pretzels. Every time we go to the mall he asked to get a pretzel, so a few weeks ago we were at the grocery store and on the very top shelf he saw the box for homemade Auntie Anne's pretzels. He begged to buy them and make pretzels. After looking at the directions I thought it would be a great project to save for when GiGi came in town! So yesterday GiGi and the boys made pretzels and they turned out so good... they tasted just like the ones at the mall.

GiGi and Pop are here for a visit and they brought the boys back a Grand Canyon Park Ranger outfit from their recent trip. As you know the boys are loving playing pretend and dressing up so Carter was eager to try on his new outfit. He loves it and didn't want to take it off! After GiGi showed him who Yogi Bear was on the computer it is now his new favorite show.

Hudson has thanked Brad no less than 10 times for his "light up thing"

The circus is in town! Today the boys got to go to the circus for the first time. I had heard it was coming and thought the boys would enjoy it so I asked my neighbor if they would be interested in going with us. Not only were they interested but she got us the total hook up! Through a work contact we got FREE tickets, FREE garage parking, a tour before the show, and a goodie bag for the kids. It was great! Thanks Lisa.

The boys really enjoyed the show. I was worried since it was a 2 hour and 10 minute show that they would get bored, but with snacks they did really well. Hudson liked the motorcycles in the cage and the acrobats. Carter liked the tigers and the elephants. If it wasn't for the expensive "light up thing" Hudson cried over and ended up getting, it would have been a cheap adventure!

We had snow again! It is so strange how much colder and more snow we have gotten in Nashville compared to Memphis and it is only 3 hours away. I asked Brad... where did you move me Colorado? We woke up Monday to about 4-5 inches of the white stuff. The boys were so excited. This time we were better prepared with snow clothes. Our sled we bought at Target worked out great on the hills of the neighborhood. I have a feeling this won't be the last time we see snow this season. It is only January and I am ready for spring!

2010 In Review

The year 2010 brought along a big change for our family. After having our house on the market for 7 long months, we sold our house in Collierville and moved to Franklin! We moved in July and have really enjoyed living in middle Tennessee. 2010 had lots of firsts for our family... First time in big boy underwear for Hudson. He did so good with his potty training. First time Hudson took swim lessons. He loves the water. First time in a big boy bed for Carter. He has done so well adjusting. It made me sad to put away the crib. My babies are not babies anymore. First time to Disney World for the boys in June. GiGi and Pop were very generous and took the whole family. We had so much fun despite the very hot weather! We also had lots of new things in 2010 for our family. New city, new house, new preschool for the boys, and new friends! Hudson turned 3 with a construction truck party... the boy loves trucks! Carter turned 2 with a Mickey Mouse party. This year both Hudson and Carter learned to recognize all the letters and know the sound each of them make. They are growing up to be smart little boys! While we had lots of great things happen this year, we lost our dear Memo in August. We are so sad that she is gone but also so thankful she is not suffering any more. In all, we were truly blessed with health and happiness this year and pray for many more blessings in 2011!

We had a nice Christmas in Memphis this year. It was very relaxing and we enjoyed spending time with Mimi and Bull. The boys were very excited about Christmas this year. They loved all the decorations, learning about baby Jesus' birthday, and of course opening presents. Larry must of told Santa they were very good, because they got way too many toys! They have enjoyed playing with all their new stuff this week.

Christmas came a little early at our house yesterday. Larry sent 2 of Santa's gifts early. The Double Crash was a hit as expected and Carter can't wait for it to warm up to ride his tractor outside. He needs lots of practice on the steering component to driving. He has the petal part down. We also opened gifts from GiGi and Pop, Jodie and Todd, and Grammie. Even Molly liked the snow. She is 13 years old and has never liked the snow but she loved it this time. So strange. Rocky still didn't like it.

Larry the Elf from Elf on the Shelf has moved into our home. Larry is here to watch everyone and make sure that we all behave and are good. Every night Larry flies to the North Pole to report to Santa all the days happening around here and whether we were naughty or nice. Then before we wake up he flies back into our house and lands somewhere different. The only rule is you can't touch Larry or he will loose his magical powers.

The boys are really into Larry. They run around the house each morning looking for him to see where he has landed. Hudson was even talking to Larry last night to see if he would tell Santa that he wants a "Rock'in Roll Guitar". It changes daily...

Success! Finally a visit to see Santa where no one cried or was scared! The boys were excited and couldn't wait to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas. Hudson told him he wanted a helicopter and garbage truck and Carter told him he wanted a fire truck. Trucks, Trucks, Trucks! Of course that has changed several times since we saw him. Hudson is now asking that I call him to tell him what he really wants!

We celebrated Daddy's birthday twice. In Memphis with Mimi and Bull and on his birthday in Texas with GiGi and Pop. The boys thought we needed party hats since we didn't have them for Molly's party. GiGi provided the hats along with a delicious steak dinner and key lime pie requested by the birthday boy himself.

Hudson's class at school had a Thanksgiving feast and I helped the teachers with setting up. They had a healthy lunch of turkey and veggies. Many of the kids didn't eat their veggies which made me feel better that my children are normal... Carter even came and joined in on the fun. I love helping with the parties and seeing Hudson interact with his friends.
